Recalling 2013MY Chrysler 300, charger and Ram 1500 on 8 speed transmission split fears
A number of cars from Chrysler Group all-wheel drive, including the Chrysler 300, Dodge Charger and Ram 1500 with a V6 engine and 8-speed ZF 8HP45 automatic transmissions is being recalled because the company has detected that the transmission output shaft can fracture."Output shafts installed in some vehicles the year 2013 model were formed using a two-step method used forging during early production," said automaker in a statement. "The resulting components may be subject to fracture in exceptional circumstances."Chrysler said that, although it is aware of accidents or associated injuries, transmission output shaft fracture could result in a loss of energy in motion and let the car roll when it is placed in the 'Park' if does not apply the parking brake before leaving the vehicle. The company said that it has addressed the issue in the most recent transmission replacing the method of two-stage of forging a single stage forging process. In terms of the affected models, including 4,194 cars in the United States, 1,424 in Canada and 45 outside the NAFTA region, automaker will inspect and replace the transmissions, as needed, for free, with the withdrawal will begin in January 2014.
